Recital at New Haw Library
On the evening of Friday 10th May visitors to New Haw Library experienced a delightful recital of music played on the harp by professional harpist Ruth Cartledge. Some of the classical pieces we heard were 'Sonata in C minor' by S. G. Dussek, 'Canon in D' by Johann Pachelbel and well known themes like 'Greensleeves', 'Amazing Grace' and 'Ash Grove'. Later she showed us that modern popular music like Elvis's 'Can't help falling in love' and 'I dreamed a dream' from Les Miserables is well suited to the harp. Between the pieces she told us the history of the harp and a little of the lives of the classical composers. Members of the audience were pleased to be able to examine close up the complicated structure of the harp. A very enjoyable and educational performance.
